Колись це місто носило зовсім іншу назву – Ногайськ. Звідки вона взялася, коли змінилася і як розвивалося місто – саме про це ми сьогодні і розповімо. Адже в історії Ногайська — Приморська було багато цікавого.
Передісторія виникнення Приморська тісно пов’язана із ногайцями, які населяли ці місця. Потреба у створенні міста, яке служило б адміністративним і торгово-промисловим центром місцевої округи, давно усвідомлювалася начальниками ногайців. Ще в 1808 році тодішній начальник ногайців капітан І. А. Темрез припускав заснувати місто на місці аула Єдинохти (нині с. Костянтинівка Мелітопольського району).
Пізніше ногайський пристав граф Я. Я. де Мезон неодноразово звертався і до Рішельє, і до Ланжерона з клопотанням про заснування міста. 18 січня 1821 року імператор Олександр I підписав, нарешті, Найвищий указ, який говорив: «Місто Ногайськ заснувати на тому місці, де селище Обіточне при річці цього імені, що впадає в Азовське море».
Тут розмістилося окреме управління у справах ногайців. Начальника Ногайського округу призначали поліцейським начальником нового міста. Ті, хто оселився в молодому місті, звільнялися від усіх державних податків на 10 років. За рік губернський архітектор розробив план забудови Ногайська.
27 вересня 1823 року начальником ногайців призначили колезького асесора Барактарьова. Йому й довелося створювати Ногайськ та пристань на Обіточенській косі. Проект пристані затвердили ще 30 жовтня 1817 року. Вона мала зводитися за ногайський громадський рахунок. Але будівництво її йшло погано і було припинено в 1824 році, коли граф Воронцов, переконавшись у непридатності обраного місця, наказав будувати пристань біля Бердянської коси, біля гирла річки Берди.
21 жовтня 1825 року імператор Олександр I, мандруючи з Таганрога до Криму, заночував у Ногайську. Він залишився задоволений організацією казенних закладів та улаштуванням міста.
У березні 1825 року в Ногайську збудували 34 будинки, в них проживало 298 осіб. Населення швидко поповнювалося міщанами із Полтавщини, Херсонщини. Тут стали осідати кріпаки-втікачі з різних районів України та Росії. Потягнулися сюди вірменські та грецькі купці, польські, єврейські, німецькі колоністи. Під час Кримської війни (1853-1856) у місті розміщувався госпіталь для поранених, який утримувався переважно коштом місцевого населення.
24 серпня 1832 року окреме управління у справах ногайців скасували. Вони підпорядковані Мелітопольському земському суду. Ну а у 1860-х роках ногайці під впливом турецьких агентів залишили Приазов’я. Ногайськ втратив статус адміністративного центру ногайців та став заштатним містом Таврійської губернії.
До середини XIX століття у місті налічувалося понад 2700 мешканців. Працювало чотири цегельні та черепичні заводи та невеликий свічковий завод, хлібопекарні, кустарні підприємства з виробництва ковбаси, карамелі, печива, пива, майстерні з пошиття взуття та одягу, два парові та чотири вітряки. Міщани займалися візництвом, ремеслом та торгівлею, багато хто батрачив по селах повіту. У місті торгували 36 крамниць і діяли три заїжджих двори. Щотижня збиралися базари та двічі на рік – ярмарки.
До кінця XIX століття в Ногайську діяли поштово-телеграфна контора, ощадно-позичкове товариство, суспільство взаємного кредиту, ветеринарна амбулаторія. Промисловість міста налічувала понад 20 малих підприємств. На кошти земства утримувалися ремісниче, два народні, чоловіче двокласне, церковно-парафіяльне жіноче та лютеранське училища.
Міське життя регулювалося виборною міською думою та її робочим органом — міською управою. 1896 року міським головою обрали Костянтина Євстафійовича Звороно. З його ім’ям пов’язують великі роботи з благоустрою Ногайська. У цей період спорудили артезіанську криницю, з’явилися міський садок, пристань, м’ясні ряди, відкрилася 5-класна жіноча прогімназія та початкове жіноче училище.
Паралельно з міською думою в Ногайську діяла і міщанська управа, яку очолював староста. У 1913 році доходи, що надійшли до міської казни, склали 210 тис. рублів. На потреби міста було витрачено близько 184 тисяч. За правопорядком стежила поліцейська управа: наглядач та два пристави. А правосуддя здійснювали мировий суддя та судовий слідчий. Юридичні послуги надавав городянам приватний нотаріус. На місці нинішнього міського парку в два ряди розташовувалися магазини та лавки.
До початку ХХ століття населення Ногайська становило 5638 осіб – представники понад десяти національностей. Чимало їх мали свої культові споруди. У місті було два православні храми – Свято-Миколаївський собор та Свято-Успенська церква, яку в народі називали Карапеєвською. Були ще вірменська церква, німецька кірха та єврейська синагога. У передмісті – селі Обіточному – діяла Свято-Троїцька церква.
У 1908 році поряд з Ногайськом, на березі Азовського моря, звели невелику грязелікарню — маленький цегляний будиночок. Бруд черпали у навколишніх лиманах і доставляв у будиночок на човнах. Але місцевий курорт виявився невигідним підприємством – далеко від міста, дороги немає, клієнтів небагато. Тому власники підпалили лікарню, отримали страховку та залишили місто.
Культурне життя Ногайська помітно активізувалося межі XIX-XX століть. У 1908 році було відкрито купецький клуб, приватний театр Ангеловського, синематограф Мироненко та фотографія Зінковського.
На березі Обітної в міському саду виросла пристань для човнів. У вихідні на естраді грав духовий оркестр ремісничого училища. Алеями статечно походжали батьки, гралися діти. Чоловіки грали у кеглі. Жінки сидячи на лавках обговорювали свої вічні проблеми. Діти із задоволенням їли тістечка, які купували в магазинчику Равіча. Тут же продавався лимонад кількох видів.
У 1900 році коштом земства відкрили жіноче училище, реорганізоване через чотири роки в жіночу гімназію. Начальницею було призначено П. В. Рябухіну, педраду очолював І. К. Бойко – майбутній перший директор Ногайського радгоспу-технікуму. З 1905 року почало працювати реальне училище для хлопчиків. Завідувати училищем було доручено І. К. Бойку. Навчання в обох навчальних закладах було платним. Неподалік гімназії розташовувалося ремісниче училище. У ньому хлопчики навчалися будівельних спеціальностей.
Медичне обслуговування городян здійснювала невелика амбулаторія, відкрита 1876 року коштом земства. 17 серпня 1880 року на посаду земського лікаря призначили випускника медичного факультету Київського університету В. Н. Фоміна. За участь у Російсько-турецькій війні (1877-1878) він був нагороджений болгарським орденом «Золотий хрест із півмісяцем». Одразу ж Василь Миколайович зайнявся благоустроєм нової будівлі лікарні на 30 місць та підготовкою медперсоналу. Протягом сорока чотирьох наступних років лікар вів прийом з усіх хвороб, сам оперував.
В околицях Ногайська тяглися поля поміщиків Меркулова та Глібової. У місті було багато складів для зберігання зерна, діяли великі торгові компанії Дрейфусов, купців Шашкіна, Петрова, Гуревича. Хліб відправляли покупцям морським шляхом. Для цього через село Обіточне до моря було вимощено бруківку та зроблено спуск. На літо зводилася тимчасова дерев’яна пристань, до якої баржі пришвартовувалися.
У 1923 році було утворено Ногайський район. Населення міста значно скоротилося порівняно з 1914 роком, через розруху та голод, а також громадянську війну — на 1,8 тисяч осіб. У жовтні 1924 року центр Ногайського району був перекласифікований в село.
Під час Голодомору 1932-1933 років втратило життя, принаймні, 266 жителів міста. Починаючи з 1938 року, село Ногайськ отримало статус селища міського типу.
У 1940 році біля хлібоприймального пункту, розташованого на узбережжі моря, випадково було виявлено скелет південного слона, який колись існував у цих місцях більше 2 мільйонів років тому. В 1941 році ця феноменальна знахідка дісталася у руки німецької влади, яка завершила археологічні розкопки та відправила кістки до Берліна. Після 1949 року знахідка опинилася в Ленінграді. Спочатку скелет слона був виставлений в Ермітажі разом з повернутою колекцією картин, а в даний момент він може бути оглянутий в Зоологічному музеї Санкт-Петербурга. Висота скелета становить 4,35 метра, і він є найкраще збереженим скелетом цієї давньої тварини з періоду пліоцену.
Радянські війська залишили Ногайськ 6 жовтня 1941 року, а до 1943 року місто було окуповане німцями. З 1964 року селище Ногайськ було перейменовано на селище міського типу Приморське. У 1967 році Приморське отримало статус міста районного підпорядкування і стало відомим як місто Приморськ. Поступово місто розвивалось, але, нажаль, наразі воно окуповане і життя там, можна сказати, зупинилося…
